A cracked, shiny or sagging gear gaiter can make an otherwise tidy interior look tired, and because gaiters are small, light and easy to remove, they're perfectly suited to our By Post service. Unclip yours, post it to the workshop, and get back a hand-made replacement in exactly the leather, colour and stitching you choose.
Why we work from your original
There's no universal gaiter. Every car has its own pattern: the height of the lever, the shape of the surround, and the way the gaiter fixes in place, whether that's a plastic frame it stretches over, clips around the base, or a ring at the knob end. That's why the most reliable route is to post us your original: Craig unpicks it, uses the panels as the exact pattern for your car, and builds the new gaiter the same way, so it fits back precisely as the factory one did.
If your original is missing or too far gone, don't write it off: send photos and your car's make and model and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
Materials, colours and stitching
This is where a gaiter gets fun. Because it uses so little material, you can be as restrained or as bold as you like:
- Leather: smooth automotive leather in a wide colour range, hard-wearing and easy to clean where your hand brushes it every day.
- Alcantara-style suede: a soft, grippy suede-effect finish that pairs well with performance interiors.
- Stitch colour: match your interior thread, or contrast it: colour-coded stitching to your bodywork, calipers or seat piping is a small detail that lifts the whole console.
- Matching sets: order gear and handbrake gaiters together and they're cut from the same hide, so the colour and grain match exactly.
If we've retrimmed your seats, steering wheel or full leather interior, we can carry the identical leather and thread through to the gaiters so everything reads as one design.
Posting your gaiter
Gaiters travel easily: a padded envelope or small box is usually all it takes. Include a note with your name, phone number and quote reference, and send it tracked to Ultimate Trim, Unit 6 Carrock Road, Wirral, CH62 3RA. We confirm the moment it arrives, and once you've approved photos of the finished gaiter, it's returned to your door by courier.
Prefer to call in? You're welcome to visit the workshop, but for a job this size, the postbox is usually all you need.

Send photos for a quote

Post us your original
In most cases we copy the pattern directly from your existing gaiter, so unclip it and post it to Unit 6 Carrock Road, Wirral, CH62 3RA. We confirm as soon as it arrives.

Cut and stitched by hand
Craig uses your original as the pattern, cuts the new gaiter in your chosen material and stitches it by hand, matching the fixing method so it fits back exactly as the original did.

Approve and return
You approve photos of the finished gaiter, then it's packaged and returned to your door by courier, ready to clip or frame back into place.

Do I have to send my original gaiter?
It's the best way. Your original acts as the exact pattern for your car, including the fixing ring, clips or stitched base it attaches by, so the new one fits precisely. If you'd rather not be without it, send photos first and ask. We'll advise on what's possible for your model.
What materials and colours can I choose?
Gaiters are made in automotive leather and Alcantara-style suede fabrics, in a wide range of colours, with your choice of stitch colour. You can match your existing interior exactly or add a deliberate contrast: a red-stitched black leather gaiter is a classic for a reason.
How do I remove a gear gaiter?
On most cars the gaiter and its surround unclip from the centre console, and the gaiter then unhooks from the gear knob or comes away with a retaining ring. It varies by model, so check your handbook or a model-specific guide first, and never force a trim clip. If in doubt, ask us or a local garage before pulling anything.
Can you make the gaiter match my seats?
Yes. If you tell us the colour and stitching of your interior (or send a photo), we'll get as close a match as the available hides allow. If we've already retrimmed your seats or steering wheel, we can use the same leather and thread.
How long will it take?
Gaiters are small jobs, but turnaround depends on our current workload. We'll confirm timings in your quote before you post anything.
