Marine upholstery built for life on the water

Boat upholstery has a harder life than anything in a car. It's soaked by spray and rain, baked by sun bouncing off the water, sat on in wet clothes and then left in a damp cabin all winter. Ordinary automotive materials simply give up: they fade, crack, and hold moisture until the foam underneath turns sour. Marine upholstery is its own discipline, and it's one we do week in, week out at our Wirral workshop.

Built with the right materials

The single biggest decision in marine trim is the material. For exposed seating (helm seats, cockpit benches, sun pads) we use marine-grade vinyls made to resist UV fading and shrug off water, with a wipe-clean surface that copes with sun cream, salt and the general traffic of a day afloat. Below deck, where comfort matters more than weatherproofing, we move to interior-grade fabrics and foams suited to cabin and saloon seating and berth cushions.

What we make and retrim

We work across powerboats, sailing yachts, narrowboats and RIBs, on jobs large and small:

• Helm and cockpit seats: retrimmed or built up with new foam for proper support at the wheel. See our dedicated powerboat and RIB seating page.
• Bench and locker cushions: patterned to your existing bases or made fresh to new dimensions.

• Repairs: failed seams, split panels and tired sections repaired without redoing the whole boat.

Because everything is patterned and made in-house, we can reproduce your existing shapes exactly or improve on them: deeper foam where a cushion has always been mean, better shaping on a helm seat you spend hours in.

Foam that survives the water

A common story: the covers look tired, but the real problem is underneath. Waterlogged, crumbling foam never dries out properly and never supports you again. As part of a retrim we replace and rebuild foams so the finished seat has its shape and firmness back. A new cover over dead foam is money half spent, and we won't do it without telling you.

Workshop or waterside

You're welcome to bring seats, cushions or removable panels to us at Unit 6 Carrock Road, Wirral, CH62 3RA: for a lot of marine work, the upholstery comes to the workshop while the boat stays on its mooring. Where the job needs it, we offer nationwide onsite fitting, so we can measure, template and fit at the boat.
