Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about our services, quotes, visiting and fitting, and how to get started

Everything we make is bespoke, so the honest answer to many questions is "it depends on your vehicle", but these are the things people ask us most, answered as straight as we can. If yours isn't here, call 0151 559 2515 or email [email protected] and ask.

Our services

What kinds of vehicles and upholstery do you work on?

We work across road, camper and water: custom leather car seats and full leather interiors, campervan interiors, boat and marine upholstery, classic car interiors, heated seats, seat repairs and bespoke seat covers. If your project doesn't fit neatly into one of those, ask anyway. Most interesting jobs don't.

Can you repair my existing seat instead of doing a full retrim?

Often, yes. Bolster wear, tears, sagging and burns can frequently be repaired without replacing the whole cover. Send us photos of the damage and we'll tell you honestly whether a repair or a retrim is the better option for your seat.

Can you fit heated seats to a car that never had them?

Heated seat fitting is one of our core services. Heating elements can be fitted as part of a retrim or as a standalone job. Send us your vehicle details and we'll confirm what's possible for your seats.

Do you make seat covers as well as full retrims?

Yes: we make bespoke seat covers patterned to your seats, as well as full retrims where the original covers are replaced entirely. We'll advise which suits your vehicle and budget when you get in touch.

Quotes and process

How do I get a quote?

Use the quote form on our website, call 0151 559 2515 or email [email protected]. Photos of your seats or vehicle plus a few words about what you have in mind are enough for us to advise on options and price the job. Quotes are free and no-obligation.

How much does a retrim cost?

Every job is priced individually, because every job is different: the vehicle, the materials you choose and the design all affect the price. Rather than quote a misleading flat rate, we ask for photos and your requirements and come back with a tailored figure.

Do I get to choose the leather, colours and stitching?

Yes, that's the point of bespoke. You choose the materials, colours, stitch colours and insert designs, with guidance from our lead trimmer Craig, who has 15 years' experience, on what will look right and wear well. You can also experiment with combinations in our online seat designer before you decide.

How long will my job take?

It depends on the job: a small repair and a full bespoke interior are very different undertakings. When we quote, we'll confirm the timescale and booking lead time for your specific job before you commit.

Visiting and fitting

Where is your workshop?

Unit 6 Carrock Road, Wirral, CH62 3RA, just across the Mersey from Liverpool and an easy trip from Chester. Call 0151 559 2515 to arrange a visit or drop-off.

Can I visit before deciding anything?

Yes, and we'd encourage it. Photos never do leather justice. Visiting lets you handle materials, compare grains, check colours in natural light and talk the project through with the people who'll actually do the work. Just call ahead so we can make time for you.

Do I have to bring my vehicle to the Wirral?

Not always. For suitable jobs (heated seat installation, certain seat repairs, fitting pre-made bespoke covers, and trade or fleet work), we offer nationwide onsite fitting at your location across the UK. Bespoke interiors are best made and fitted at the workshop, and we'll tell you honestly which route fits your job. Smaller items such as steering wheels and gear gaiters can also be handled entirely by courier through Ultimate Trim By Post.

Can my job be done in a single day?

Sometimes, by arrangement. Smaller jobs such as seat repairs or pre-made covers may be possible in a day, while full bespoke interiors are booked over a longer window. Ask about same-day fitting when you book: you could drop the vehicle off in the morning and make a day of it in Liverpool or Chester.

By Post and the online designer

What is Ultimate Trim By Post?

Our courier service for smaller items: steering wheels, gear gaiters, armrests and other trim that fits in a box. You send the item to our Wirral workshop, we retrim it by hand in your chosen materials, and once you've approved photos of the finished work we send it back to your door. No visit required.

How do I send my item to you?

Request a quote first with photos of the item and the finish you're after. Once the job is agreed, package the item securely and post it to Unit 6 Carrock Road, Wirral, CH62 3RA. We confirm the moment it arrives, and again when it's on its way back to you.

What does the online seat designer do?

Our online designer lets you build your own seat or steering wheel design: choose a leather colour for each panel, a stitch colour and an insert pattern, and watch the design update as you go. You can share or download your design, and send it straight to the workshop with your vehicle details for a tailored quote.

Guarantees and aftercare

Is your work guaranteed?

Ask us about the guarantee that applies to your job when you request your quote, and we'll confirm exactly what's covered before any work begins.

How should I look after my new interior?

When you collect your vehicle, or when we finish an onsite fitting, we'll run through the work with you and give you care advice for the specific materials used. Different leathers and fabrics want different treatment, so we'd rather give you advice that fits your interior than a generic list.

Still not sure which service you need? Tell us about your project: send photos and a few details, and we'll point you at the right option and put a quote together.
