Seam and stitching repairs
Seams are the natural weak point of any fabric hood. The stitching sits proud of the surface, takes the full force of sun, rain and car washes, and eventually the thread perishes or the seam sealing breaks down. The first sign is usually a damp headlining or a trickle down the inside of a window in heavy rain.
Caught early, this is one of the most cost-effective hood repairs there is: the affected seams are resewn with thread suited to outdoor use and treated so they shed water again. Left alone, water tracking through a seam soaks the hood lining and the interior below it, so it pays not to wait.
Tears, chafing and panel repairs
Tears happen for all sorts of reasons: vandalism, a snagged branch, chafing where the fabric rubs on the frame as the roof folds. Whether a tear can be invisibly and durably repaired depends on its size, its position and the condition of the surrounding material. A repair in sound fabric can restore both weatherproofing and appearance. Where a whole panel is worn or damaged, replacing that section of the hood is sometimes the smarter option than patching.

Hood condition varies enormously between vehicles, even of the same age, and an honest recommendation depends on handling the fabric, checking the tension and looking at how the hood sits on its frame. Rear window and screen problems
Rear screens fail in their own ways. Plastic windows go cloudy, crease and eventually split, especially on hoods that are folded carelessly. Glass screens are usually bonded or sewn into the fabric, and that join can let go over time, leaving a gap that leaks. Heated screens add wiring into the mix as well. When repair is not the answer
We will always tell you honestly when a hood is beyond sensible repair. Fabric that has gone brittle across the whole roof, widespread seam failure or a hood that has shrunk badly on its frame may not reward further patching. Looking after your hood
A little care goes a long way. Brush off debris before it grinds into the weave, wash with cleaners made for hood fabric rather than household detergents, and let the hood dry fully before folding it away, because trapped moisture breeds mildew. Periodic reproofing keeps water beading off the surface instead of soaking into seams. Convertible hood questions
Can a torn convertible hood be repaired, or does it need replacing?
It depends on the size and position of the tear and the overall condition of the fabric. A clean tear in otherwise sound material can often be repaired well. If the fabric is brittle, faded or failing in several places, a repair may not hold, which is why we assess hoods in person before quoting. If replacement is the better route, ask us about the options for your model.
Why are the seams on my hood leaking?
Hood seams are stitched, and the thread and seam sealing degrade over years of sun and rain, so leaking seams are one of the most common soft top faults. Resewing and treating the affected seams is usually a far smaller job than replacing the hood, provided the surrounding fabric is still in good condition.
My plastic rear window has gone cloudy or split. Can you help?
Yes. Cloudy, creased or split plastic rear screens are a classic soft top problem, and stitched-in glass screens can separate from the fabric too. What is possible depends on how your hood is constructed, so send us photos and we will advise on the right approach for your car.
Do you work on classic convertibles?

How can I make my hood last longer?
Keep it clean with a soft brush and products intended for hood fabric, let it dry before folding it down, and reproof the fabric periodically so water beads off rather than soaking in. Avoid automatic car washes, which are hard on seams and screens. If you spot a small leak or a loose seam, deal with it early, before water damage spreads.
