No classic wears its interior like a Land Rover. A Series truck or an early Defender was trimmed to be hosed out, sat on in wet overalls and ignored for decades, and that utilitarian honesty is exactly what owners love. It also means most of them arrive with us looking well used: split vinyl, collapsed cushions, sagging headlinings and seat boxes showing more metal than trim.
We're not a Land Rover restoration specialist and won't claim to be one. We're experienced trimmers who enjoy these vehicles precisely because they ask a different question from a luxury classic: not "how fine can this be?" but "how well can this work?". Keeping it utilitarian
If you want your truck kept honest, we'll keep it honest. Series and early Defender trim is deliberately plain (flat vinyl covers, minimal padding, simple stitched panels), and the mistake is "improving" it into something plusher that no longer belongs in the vehicle. We pattern from the original covers where they survive, use hard-wearing vinyls in appropriate colours, and resist the urge to add pleats and padding the factory never fitted.
Durability leads every material decision. These interiors meet mud, dogs, tools and weather, so we draw on the same heavy-duty and marine-grade materials we use in our boat work: UV-stable, moisture-tolerant and stitched with threads that won't rot when the inevitable leak finds them.
Modern comfort, same character
The other kind of Defender owner drives their truck daily and would like their spine to forgive them for it. There's a lot we can do while keeping the character intact:
- Rebuilt seat foams: better support and a corrected cushion profile inside the original seat outline.
- Heated seats: elements fitted invisibly beneath the covers, a genuine blessing in an uninsulated alloy body.
- Upgraded materials: leather or leather-and-fabric combinations that still look at home in a working vehicle.
- Quieter, warmer cabins: retrimmed door cards and headlining with improved backing materials.
The line we hold is character. A Defender interior can be comfortable without pretending to be a luxury SUV, and we'll tell you straight if a request is drifting past the point where the truck stops feeling like a truck.

Defender & Series interior FAQs
Largely, yes. Much of a Defender seat's discomfort comes from tired foam and flat cushion profiles, so rebuilt foams with better support make a big difference on their own. We can also reshape bolsters and cushion angles subtly while keeping the original outline, and fit heated elements beneath the covers with nothing visible but a switch.
Can you make a Defender's seats more comfortable without changing how they look?
It can be (leather is tougher than people expect and wears its scuffs honestly), but for a truck that carries dogs, tools and wet gear, a heavy-duty vinyl or a hard-wearing fabric centre with leather or vinyl bolsters is often the more sensible spec. We'll base our recommendation on how the vehicle is actually used, not on what costs most.
Is leather a practical choice for a working Land Rover?
Yes. Series trims are simple, and that simplicity is the point: plain vinyl covers in the correct colours, without modern padding creeping in where it doesn't belong. We pattern from the original covers where they survive, and keep the finished trim as plain and honest as the factory intended.
Can you retrim a Series Land Rover in the original utilitarian style?
